Global sales from cellphone exports by country amounted to US $ 242.3 billion in 2016.

 

Overall, the value of cellphone exports were up by an average 19.8% for all exporting countries since 2012 when cellphone shipments were valued at $202.3 billion. Year over year, exports of cellphones retreated by -5.9% from 2015 to 2016.

Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of cellphone during 2016:

  1. China: US$116.1 billion (47.9% of total cellphone exports)
  2. Vietnam: $31.1 billion (12.9%)
  3. Hong Kong: $23.7 billion (9.8%)
  4. Netherlands: $15.6 billion (6.4%)
  5. United States: $9.9 billion (4.1%)
  6. South Korea: $8.2 billion (3.4%)
  7. Germany: $6.3 billion (2.6%)
  8. Singapore: $5.2 billion (2.1%)
  9. Austria: $4 billion (1.6%)
  10. Slovakia: $3.5 billion (1.5%)
  11. Czech Republic: $2.5 billion (1%)
  12. Taiwan: $1.9 billion (0.8%)
  13. Sweden: $1.8 billion (0.8%)

The listed 15 countries shipped 96% of global cellphone exports in 2016 by value.

Among the above countries, the fastest-growing cellphone exporters since 2012 were led by: Vietnam (up 208.6%), Hong Kong (up 115.5%), China (up 42.6%) and United States (up 34.8%).

Four countries posted declines in their exported sales: Taiwan (down -69%), France (down -47.8%), South Korea (down -32.6%) and the United Kingdom (down -17.5%).

According to Gartner, South Korea’s Samsung Electronics had a 21.9% market share of worldwide smartphone sales as of June 2015. In second place is the faster-growing American rival Apple which captured a 14.2% market share. Chinese companies Huawei (7.8%), Lenova Group (5%) and Xiaomi Tech (4.9%) collectively accounted for a 17.7% share.

Other mobile phone makers represent a 45.9% portion of global smartphone sales, up from 44.6% in the second quarter of 2014.
