Global sales from cellphone exports by country totaled US$267.4 billion in 2019.

 

Overall the value of worldwide cellphone shipments rose by an average 2.9% for all exporting countries since 2015 when exported cellphones were valued at $259.7 billion. Year over year, export sales of cellphones declined by -11% from 2018 to 2019.

 

From a continental perspective, suppliers in Asia were responsible for over three-quarters (77.8%) of all mobile phones exported during 2019. In second place was Europe at 17.7%, trailed by North American cell phone exporters at 4%. Smaller percentages originated from Oceania (0.3%) led by Australia, Africa (0.1%) and Latin America (also 0.1%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.

 

The 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 851712 for telephones for cellular networks or other wireless networks.

Below are the 15 countries that sold the most mobile phones on international markets during 2019.

  3. Hong Kong: $30.7 billion (11.5%)
  4. Netherlands: $14.6 billion (5.5%)
  5. United States: $10.1 billion (3.8%)
  6. Czech Republic: $6.7 billion (2.5%)
  7. Germany: $5.1 billion (1.9%)
  8. South Korea: $4.74 billion (1.8%)
  9. Singapore: $4.69 billion (1.8%)
  10. Austria: $4 billion (1.5%)
  11. Slovakia: $3.8 billion (1.4%)
  12. India: $3.2 billion (1.2%)
  13. Sweden: $2.3 billion (0.9%)
  14. Luxembourg: $1.7 billion (0.6%)

By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 95.1% of global cellphone exports in 2019.

Among the top exporters, the fastest-growing cellphone exporters since 2015 were: India (up 1,836%), Czech Republic (up 142.9%), Vietnam (up 41.5%) and Hong Kong (up 39.6%).

Those countries that posted declines in their exported cellphone sales were led by: South Korea (down -54.3%), Luxembourg (down -29.5%), Netherlands (down -24.4%), Singapore (down -22.3%) and the United Kingdom (down -17.8%).

According to Gartner, South Korea’s Samsung Electronics had a 21.9% market share of worldwide smartphone sales as of June 2015. In second place is the faster-growing American rival Apple which captured a 14.2% market share. Chinese companies Huawei (7.8%), Lenova Group (5%) and Xiaomi Tech (4.9%) collectively accounted for a 17.7% share.

 

Other mobile phone makers represent a 45.9% portion of global smartphone sales, up from 44.6% in the second quarter of 2015.
