The multinational manufacturing company Continental is investing around 1.6 million Euro in its production facility in Dannenberg, Germany, towards the manufacture of industrial drive belts and infrastructural upgrades to its manufacturing processes.

The company’s decision was made in light of increasing demand for drive belts for use in wind turbines for eco-friendly power and in response to a steady increase in online commerce and a higher demand for warehouses with large spaces and storage and recovery equipment in the intralogistic sector.

The investment is partly aimed at manufacturing newly developed transmission belts for wind turbines. At its headquarters in Dannenberg, Continental produces belts for Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology. To adjust the pitch of the rotor blade, Goldwind uses a drive system without gearbox or hydraulics. Inside the belt, galvanized steel cables are covered with polyurethane, which is particularly resistant to abrasion.
