MG will participate in TIMISOARA AUTO EXPO 2024, the main new car fair in western Romania. The event will take place at Shopping City Timișoara on June 08-09, 2024.
MG appeared in 1924 in the Morris Garages and since then has proven to be a futuristic brand. MG has 100 years of history behind it. Even though today's automaker has almost nothing in common with the original car company founded in Oxford, UK, the history remains. A complicated history that brought the British brand Morris Garages from interwar sensation to motorsport phenomenon, from pop icon to brand in free fall. And all this to be reborn under the new owner SAIC.
MG Morris Garages was officially founded in 1924 by Cecil Kimber. The brand started as the sports division of the Morris Cars company owned by William Morris. It came to public attention in 1924 with the MG 14/28 (derived from the Morris Oxford), the first model to bear the brand's octagonal logo.
Throughout its 100-year history, MG has had several owners. From Morris Garages derived from William Morris's business in the 1920s, to British Leyland (later Rover Group). From British Aerospace (1988) to BMW (1994). In 2000, BMW sold the MG brand to the MG Rover Group based in Longbridge, Birmingham. It was the period when MG mainly sold Rover models with MG logos, but also its own models such as the MG TF.
Now, the parent company of MG is SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation), the seventh largest automobile manufacturer in the world and the first automobile group in China with annual sales of more than 7 million units.
Romania is the 23rd European market and the 9th country in Central and Eastern Europe where MG Motor makes its debut. It already has an established network of 26 dealers across the country, which will grow to 32 dealers this year.
