The new test center has a usable area of more than 800 square meters
Among the tests carried out here are: thermal tests, mechanical tests, computed tomography, precision metallographic microscopy and macroscopy, pressure impulse tests as well as vibration tests and technical verification of product cleanliness.
Continental inaugurated, within ContiTech Timișoara, the new location for one of the largest testing laboratories in the entire network of ContiTech units in Europe. The new lab, designed from the ground up, includes testing spaces, new offices and employee amenities. It represents a significant investment in the company's testing capabilities and continued efforts to provide customers with the highest quality products.
"This new test lab is a significant achievement for our team and the entire ContiTech community. We aim to continue to develop and innovate, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry and successfully meet the requirements and specifications of our customers around the world ", said Marius Todoran, Head of Project Management of the Segment Thermal Solutions department, within ContiTech Timișoara.
With a usable area of over 800 square meters and the necessary utilities, the new test center is ready to face the most demanding requirements of the automotive industry.
"Now the engineers and technicians, 23 in number, have at their disposal the test equipment from the old laboratory, as well as new test equipment. This represents a major step towards strengthening our capabilities and commitment to excellence in every detail", adds Enesto Flores, general manager of ContiTech Timișoara.
The new test center is equipped with the most modern technologies and test devices, adapted to meet the ever-changing needs of the automotive industry. In this way, stands, technologies and knowledge are at the disposal of the ContiTech unit in Timișoara, as well as of the sister units in Europe or the USA, for a varied range of tests: from thermal and pressure tests to computed tomography, from vibration testing in a newly built, specialized product cleanliness testing chamber, from pressure impulse testing to precision metallographic microscopy, the latest acquisition being a state-of-the-art optical profilometer capable of high-accuracy measurements.
"A year ago, within the ContiTech Romania Laboratory, one of the most modern internal cleanliness verification rooms was inaugurated for products from the entire network of the concern, in terms of AC lines and heating/cooling systems. Built according to specific international standards, from special materials and benefiting from controlled temperature, with strictly restricted access to avoid the penetration of impurities from the outside, the room serves numerous units in Romania and Europe. The colleagues who work here have at their disposal stands with advanced technology in the field, in order to verify the preservation of the degree of purity of the AC lines within the limits set by the customers' requirements", adds Bogdan Asoltanei, Head of Testing Laboratory.
The testing activity in Timișoara, started two decades ago, during which the laboratories were constantly expanded with new capabilities and equipment, also determined by the volume of production, which led to an increasing number of customers.
The equipment of the test center has increased and diversified, along with the number and training of the specialists who serve it. In 2017, the company expanded, through a new construction, the test spaces, which also housed new equipment. Along with the increase in the volume of tests, the need to implement new technologies in the field of car air conditioning also increased, and the arrangement of a new space became a pressing requirement.
ContiTech Timișoara produces about 18 million transmission belts for cars, industrial machines, commercial vehicles and industrial applications and about 10 million air conditioning lines per year.
