Emirati logistics company DP World said it has opened an operational hub in Bucharest, named the European Control Tower, to lead its newly-launched pan-European logistics service, which combines combines road, maritime, air, rail and multimodal transport.
By offering streamlined supply chain management and enhanced operational efficiency, DP World is focusing on meeting customers’ need to reduce costs and accelerate delivery times in a way which gives them transparency at every stage.
It is also designed to support the greening of companies’ supply chains by enabling the broader use of DP World’s ‘groupage’ offer. Goods are dispatched by different companies into the same load so empty space in trucks, boats, trains and planes can be kept to a minimum, lowering the environmental footprint of each consignment.
"The role of the European Operational Control Tower in Bucharest will be to coordinate all of the different elements that make up this end-to-end service, including Groupage, First/Last Mile Delivery, warehousing, customs brokerage and multimodal transport. It will also develop advanced digital platforms that allow for real-time management, predictive analytics and seamless communication," DP World said in a press release on Thursday. "The choice of Bucharest reflects Romania’s strategic position geographically and DP World’s strong position in the country."
The company already operates the Port of Constanța, which serves as a gateway for shipments coming from Asia and provides access to the Danube, and the multi-modal terminal in Aiud, through which goods continue on to the rest of Europe by road and rail.
In addition to Romania, DP World's pan-European logistics service will initially focus on Moldova, Serbia, Turkey, and Bulgaria, before expanding to Central and Western Europe.
DP World is a logistics company with over 100,000 employees across six continents. In Europe, DP World employs more than 25,000 people in over 250 locations and spanning 30 countries. The company has been present in Romania since 2004.
“This end-to-end service will be transformative both for DP World and our customers in this region. By leveraging our extensive capabilities in road, maritime, air, rail and multimodal transport, we can now take goods all the way from factory floor to customer door – and do it faster, cheaper and more sustainably. It turns DP World into a genuine force in European integrated logistics.” Kris Adams, Executive Vice President for Eastern Europe DP World.
