Ford and Renault Group have announced a major strategic alliance aimed at expanding Ford’s electric vehicle lineup in Europe and boosting the competitiveness of both companies in the region’s rapidly transforming automotive market.
At the heart of the partnership is an agreement to co-develop two new Ford-branded electric vehicles. Built on the Ampere platform and drawing on Renault Group’s strong EV expertise and competitive manufacturing capabilities, the models will be produced in Northern France, highlighting the advanced industrial strengths of Ampere’s ElectriCity facilities.
Designed by Ford and co-developed with Renault Group, the vehicles will feature Ford’s signature driving characteristics, brand identity, and intuitive user experience. They represent the beginning of a broader new product roll-out for Ford in Europe, with the first model slated to arrive in early 2028.
Beyond passenger EVs, the companies have also signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore a European partnership on light commercial vehicles. Through this LOI, Ford and Renault Group will evaluate opportunities to jointly develop and manufacture selected LCVs under both brands.
Renault Group CEO François Provost said: “Renault Group is proud to launch a new strategic collaboration with Ford, an iconic automaker. This partnership showcases our strength in building successful alliances and our competitiveness in Europe. Over the long term, combining our capabilities will help us innovate faster and respond better to a rapidly evolving European automotive market.”
Ford Motor Company president and CEO Jim Farley added: “This strategic partnership with Renault Group is a key milestone for Ford as we build a highly efficient, future-ready business in Europe. By pairing Renault’s industrial scale and EV know-how with Ford’s design leadership and driving DNA, we’ll create vehicles that are capable, exciting, and unmistakably Ford.”

Leveraging Combined Strengths
The alliance will capitalize on the proven performance of Renault Group’s Ampere platform, its EV production ecosystem, and its manufacturing footprint in Northern France to deliver two all-new Ford electric passenger vehicles.
By uniting their respective strengths in design, innovation, software, and customer services, Ford and Renault Group aim to better address industry challenges and meet the needs of both retail and commercial customers.
The partnership will also bring together decades of shared experience in the light commercial vehicle sector, supported by the industrial scale and broad supplier networks of both companies. Together, Ford and Renault Group intend to accelerate innovation, strengthen efficiency, and sharpen competitiveness across the European market.
