The Free Drive is a new electric bike innovation that converts your pedal power into electrical energy to run a motor, dispensing with a chain or belt drive.

The fly-by-wire drivetrain is a collaboration between Schaeffler, an industrial bearings manufacturer in Germany, and ebike drivetrain maker Heinzmann.

Bike companies have received samples and the design may be finalised in mid-2022 after they finish testing, according to the brand.

In an additional move to combat the ongoing global chip shortage, Bosch plans to further extend its wafer fab in Reutlingen. More than a quarter of a billion euros is to be invested in creating new production space and the necessary clean-room facilities between now and 2025. This will give Bosch the firepower to meet the continuously growing demand for chips used in mobility and IoT applications.

Sony Group will likely add new technology partners to its electric vehicle (EV) project to help it forge a mobility business to transform cars from transportation machines to entertainment spaces, a Sony executive told Reuters.
