Helsing, a leading defence technology company based in Europe, has announced the successful close of a €600 million Series D funding round. The round was led by Prima Materia, the investment firm co-founded by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, who also serves as Helsing’s chairman. Existing investors Lightspeed Ventures, Accel, Plural, General Catalyst, and SAAB participated in the round, alongside new investors BDT & MSD Partners.
Founded in 2021, Helsing is at the forefront of integrating advanced AI technology into modern defence systems.
The company specializes in AI-powered software that processes vast amounts of sensor and weapons system data to support real-time military decision-making. In 2024, Helsing also expanded into hardware, launching its own military drone line, the HX-2.
This latest funding round follows Helsing’s €450 million Series C in July 2024, which included participation from General Catalyst, Elad Gil, Accel, Saab, Lightspeed Ventures, Plural, and Greenoaks.
According to the NATO Innovation Fund, venture investment in Europe’s defence, security, and resilience sector hit a record high of USD 5.2 billion in 2024.
“As Europe rapidly strengthens its defence capabilities in response to evolving geopolitical challenges, there is an urgent need for investments in advanced technologies that ensure its strategic autonomy and security readiness,” said Daniel Ek, Founder, Prima Materia, and Chairman, Helsing. “Helsing is uniquely positioned with its AI leadership to deliver these critical capabilities in all-domain defence innovation. By doubling down on our investment, Prima Materia reaffirms its commitment to empowering Europe’s technological sovereignty—an ambition Helsing perfectly embodies.”
